Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
I have been working in the field of mental health for over seven years and joined Rum River in 2021. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I specialize in providing mental health and substance use related therapy in both individual and group formats. I work with adolescents and adults in the areas of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma and substance use.

My Treatment Approach:

Furthermore, I offer specialized mental health assistance in the areas of mindfulness, interpersonal relationship concerns, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation. Phillip Martin
MA LPCC

about phillip (Phill)
Phillip Martin, MA LPCC
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
Phill holds a master's Degree in educational psychology from CSPP program the University of Minnesota, a bachelor's degree in psychology from Bethel University, and is a LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor).  He has worked in the mental health field for nearly a decade and thrives with populations struggling with addictions, adjusting to life events, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and complex trauma, to name a few.
His therapeutic approach is non-pathological, educational, and highly curious.  He works eclectically and utilizes approaches from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).  You’re likely to hear phrases such as “how couldn’t you respond that way” as a way to explore the functionality of protective behaviors and thought processes rather than a judgment or label about your experience.
Phill believes that his role in therapy as a specialist is to join you, the expert, on your journey with support, unity, and compassion to assist in healing inner wounds so they do not turn into suffering.  He values making meaningful and trusting relationships with his clients to support their holistic wellbeing.  This is achieved through being simultaneously supportive and direct to help explore new, healthier avenues for one’s health.
In his time outside the therapy office, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, learning more about horticulture and sustainability, listening to both new and familiar music, as well as learning new cooking practices and techniques.
“Our parts can sometimes be disruptive or harmful, but once they’re unburdened, they return to their essential goodness. When we learn to love all our parts, we can learn to love all people―and that will contribute to healing the world” – Dick Schwartz

Jennifer Phoenix
MA LMFT

about jennifer
Jennifer Phoenix, MA LMFT
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Jennifer earned her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Minnesota School of
Professional Psychology at Argosy University. She has 14 years of experience in the mental health field working in a variety of settings. Jennifer has worked with adults with severe and persistent mental
illness in their homes and community, in private practice settings with families and individuals, in school
settings with students and their families, and also aboard a Marine Corps installation serving active duty military and their family members. Jennifer approaches the wide variety of clients that she treats with an open mind and a belief that each client is the expert of their own life. With so many available options
for treating our mental health these days, Jennifer believes strongly in the power of a good connection between therapist and client. She is happy to create an environment where each client feels free to fully be themselves and know they are safe to share.
Jennifer especially enjoys working with adolescents and young adults, particularly those who enjoy creative pursuits and wish to bring any artwork or other creative things into session to help process their work. Additionally, Jennifer has extensive clinical experience working with the partners and family members of people experiencing chemical dependency. These clients often experience many common thoughts, emotions, and challenges that can feel isolating and confusing. Jennifer has a lot of success
helping clients navigate these challenges.
Jennifer holds a certificate in Clinical Hypnosis and is trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART),
both of which are options she can utilize for interested clients.
Jennifer’s approach in therapy is a collaborative one: working with each client to determine what they are hoping to get out of therapy and creating a plan together to reach those goals. Jennifer utilizes bio-neurological education to examine the role our nervous systems can often play in experiencing distress and mood concerns, and also focuses heavily on a cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach.
Overall Jennifer can be a pretty quirky individual. She enjoys finding ways to make life a fun experience whenever possible. Therapy can be very serious, but when the occasion calls for it, you’ll likely hear her tell one or two lame jokes!

*Please note: Jennifer has a health condition which makes her very sensitive to scents of all kinds. She strongly requests that any clients who see her in person please avoid the use of any perfumes, scented lotions, or even strong laundry smells on the day of a session with her in order to avoid a flare up. Thank you!
