Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
Many times in life our story takes an unexpected turn and we struggle with feeling lost, hopeless, anxious, and fearful. We lose track of who we are and where we are going.
As a therapist, Jeanette values walking alongside her clients during these moments. Our life story often doesn’t work out the way we had predicted. Someone passes away too soon, the birth of a child is traumatic instead of bringing joy, you or a spouse struggles with infertility instead of becoming a parent, fear and anxiety grips you, or intense depression pulls you into the depths of a hole that you feel you cannot climb out from and escape.
Jeanette McGie is an Attachment-based therapist who has practiced for 5 years. She earned her Masters in Clinical Social Work at the University of St. Thomas/St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. She is trained by Postpartum Support International and is listed as a recommended provider by Postpartum Support Minnesota.
One of Jeanette’s passions is working with moms and dads who are struggling with postpartum mood disorder such as Postpartum Anxiety and Postpartum Depression. She enjoys being able to support them while they step into this new part of their life and work through the joys and struggles of parenting. She is also passionate about working with families who are struggling with infertility and the disappointment and sadness that comes when becoming a parent takes a different path than you had planned. Additionally, Jeanette enjoys working with children, adolescents, and their families as they grow in their relationships with each other and navigate the different mental health concerns that may present themselves during those times in life
Jeanette uses a client center-based therapy that meets the client where they are and that understands the history of his or her trauma and early attachment to support the client with his or her mental health concerns. She uses Internal Family System Therapy, Play Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. She assesses what the individual’s early attachment was or is and how it has impacted his or her development and relationship to the world around him or her. She also assesses the family dynamics and how they have impacted the person's development and interaction with others.
In Jeanette’s personal time she enjoys spending time with her husband, two kids, and friends. She loves the outdoors and enjoys camping, hiking, canoeing, and gardening. She also enjoys reading a good book and snuggling with her dog, Gracie.

Clinical Areas of Interest include depression and anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, legacy building, physical health and wellness, hoarding, relationship issues, parenting, and spirituality.
The basis for my psychological belief system is psychodynamic in nature. I believe that every moment of our lives up to the present moment has shaped who we are and how we think, and this is fluid and will continue to change. Many of the issues we deal with, that are not situational, are because of these things in our past so learning about them and understanding them can provide great insight into how we act or behave and provide a steppingstone to healing and growth.
My toolbox is eclectic however as I will utilize any treatment, intervention, or skill that will work with a client because we are all unique and there is no "one size fits all" approach to any issue. My faith orientation is Catholic, but I work well with all Christian faiths. I am also well educated in many other faiths so I have no issues working with anyone who may be struggling spiritually.
I believe that we all have the ability to change and grow, what is often missing is the will, desire, and motivation to make this happen. Change and self-reflection are scary and difficult. I love working with anybody who is genuinely ready to change and put in the necessary work. I cannot "fix" you or change your life, I can only accompany you on the journey, but the work must be done by you. You must be in therapy for you, not because someone else has told you that you need to do it. The dissatisfaction with your current situation or the unhealthy patterns that you see in your life must be your catalyst for change. When you are ready, I'll be here.Sherry O'Malley

Sometimes words fail or sometimes there is nothing in the dictionary to capture the essence of how we are doing. This is where the power of art comes into effect. Art therapy makes it possible to express what is difficult, and sometimes impossible, to communicate with words. No experience with art materials is required to try art therapy.
